Introduction

If there’s one variety of firewood that log suppliers are regularly asked for, it would be Ash.

Massively popular with owners of log burners and open fires. However, this doesn’t explain why this type of wood is so popular and why it’s so widely used.

This article will explain just that, as well as why we are one of the largest ash firewood suppliers in South Wales.

Very hot burn

Some varieties of firewood either provide an intense heat for a short burst or are so dense that they burn so slowly the heat output is less.

However, with ash, well, it has that perfect combination of intense heat and long burn times. It simply produces a tremendous heat output, yet is not so dense that you need to spend extremely long periods trying to ignite and get the fire started.

Homegrown

Ash can be found here in the United Kingdom; it’s therefore been a solid fuel that’s been used for a very long period of time. It can therefore be grown, dried and supplied to customers all here within the United Kingdom.

Very little Ash

Ash is the name of this type or species of wood; however, what it actually produces when burnt is very little in the way of actual ash in the bottom of the wood-burning stove. Where some softwoods burn so quickly, they produce more ash; well, ash is different.

It burns so hot and with such an intense level of heat output that the ash residue left is often very minimal. This is important because it demonstrates how efficiently this wood burns; it burns ultra hot, producing less ash.

Affordable

Some types of timber, let’s say English Oak, grow so slowly and are an amazing type of firewood. However, because it grows so slowly, this type of firewood is more expensive for firewood suppliers like ourselves to offer for sale.

However, ash is more abundant; therefore, it’s a more affordable type of firewood. This is why it offers superb value for money: you’re getting a type of firewood that burns hot and efficiently, and is easy to ignite, but it’s not as expensive as other types of firewood, such as oak hardwood logs.
