Introduction
At this present time, that is during March 2022, you may have read a lot of news articles, and seen on the television, that there is a lot of conversation about gas prices which have increased recently.
This has meant at our company, we have had conversations with many of our customers, which have stated that they have made the switch to solid fuels, to heat their homes. They have therefore decided to solely heat their home with our kiln-dried firewood, or when they call us, they are now asking for a lot more logs to be delivered to their home, than before.
Our firewood has always been in strong demand among our customers, however we have seen a large increase in how much our customers are buying, where many homeowners have now opened up their fireplaces, to start burning our firewood.
Our customers simply therefore are purchasing our logs in a greater quantity, when compared to what they purchased from us before, and many of our customers say this is to reduce their dependency on using their central heating systems.
Why so many homeowners purchase their firewood from us
It’s fair to say that there are now a lot of firewood suppliers based right across South Wales, this might range from an independent shop, selling a few net bags of logs outside the business premises.
It can then range right up to large suppliers of firewood, such as us, that can supply huge quantities of logs to both businesses and also customers in South Wales.
Many customers purchase their firewood from us for one simple reason, that is, we can offer a consistent supply of high-quality logs.
It can be massively disappointing, from a customers perspective, when you purchase firewood from a supplier, and it does not produce a good heat- because it is not been kiln-dried or seasoned.
This is what is often referred to as “wet wood”, and should most definitely be avoided, because this type of firewood, is not dried, so can actually damage the chimney lining, and also the wood-burning stove itself.
Therefore, when you are choosing a firewood supplier here in South Wales, make sure you choose one that offers you the right type of logs, and that they have been dried either through seasoning for the correct length of time, or that type of wood has been kiln-dried.
Can you deliver firewood / logs in South Wales?
Yes, the vast majority of our logs are delivered direct to customers. We therefore offer a delivery service, to both commercial businesses, and also our residential customers.
What is kiln-dried firewood ?
Kiln-dried firewood, is when the logs, which might have just been freshly cut, are put into a kiln for a period of time, this is to reduce the moisture content of the wood.
The logs should then be checked after coming out of the kiln, to make sure that the moisture content is reduced- a moisture meter should be used to check this.
This will then mean that either the logs are ready for burning, or that they need to be placed back into the kiln, to further reduce the moisture of the wood.
Wet wood can hold a vast quantity of water, therefore in order to dry the logs out, they need to be “kiln-dried” or seasoned for a correct period of time.
