Welcome to forestry firewood

Here at Forestry Firewood, we specialise in retailing high-quality kiln-dried firewood and also kindling.

We have extensive experience in drying and selling firewood and are now an established business here in South Wales.
We go the extra mile to offer top levels of customer service to everyone of our customers. We shall explain later in this article, how all of the firewood that we sell is sustainably sourced from very carefully managed forests.

Our firewood is ready to burn

We understand what customers want is a supply of consistently high-quality firewood. While some companies might resell firewood in a hit-and-miss in terms of it being dry, we are entirely different firewood company in that we mae sure that all the firewood we sell is “ready to burn”.
Therefore, we always ensure that our firewood is rigorously tested before it is delivered to the customer.
We use quality and accurate moisture meters to ensure the customer receives firewood that is ready to burn.

Large investment in log cutting equipment

We have heavily invested in firewood processors and quality kilns, which means that we can ensure the quality of our logs are consistently high. From the cutting to the drying to the delivery to the customer, we ensure that we deliver a high-quality product.

Carefully managed forests

Many customers will understandably want the reassurance and guarantee that our timber comes from carefully managed forests. Our firewood is sustainably sourced, and we buy from the Forestry Commission.

Well stocked

People who have used a wood-burning stove for an extended period will often know precisely the variety of timber they wish to purchase. For example, here in the United Kingdom, two varieties of firewood are very popular with customers: that’s our oak logs and ash firewood.
We work hard throughout the entire year to keep our warehouse well stocked, full of this quality firewood. So when the weather starts to get rather cold and a bit nippy, you can rest assured that we hold ample firewood at our warehouse.

Therefore, we can deliver to you at a time that’s convenient, perhaps you would like a whole vanload of ash, or maybe you would prefer an entire load of oak logs delivered? We are here to help.

Why not arrange for the delivery to be made today?

Many customers are making the switch from occasionally using their log-burning stove say on the odd day or two a week during the winter to now using there log burners on a daily basis. Therefore, buying firewood in small plastic bags at the supermarket is often inconvenient, as the customer need to keep replenishing their firewood by visiting the local shop.

This is when many homeowners are making the switch to our business simply because we can deliver a huge amount of firewood to your doorstep all in one go. You might want, for example, a whole vanload delivered to your property. We can do this, and we can then replenish the logs as often as you need them.

Why not call us today?

Perhaps you wish to purchase a particular type of firewood, let’s say cherry wood, and you want to see if we have it in stock at the moment?

Introduction

You might think, well, wood is wood-it can all be burnt, right?

Well, to an extent, because some firewood burns better than others. Some firewood produces intense heat for an extended period; others can create a dull burn or burn so fast it can feel like you’re feeding a locomotive engine with fuel, the amount of time you have to add wood to your wood burner.

So, this begs the question, which firewood is best for burning?

Well, different firewood companies will answer the question differently. However, the best firewood for burning is ash and oak logs. We shall explain why in greater detail within this article.

Ash

Ashwood produces an unbelievable amount of heat. When the wood burns, the ambers glow so hot that they can look like hot coal. Therefore, this type of wood is ideally suited for burning in wood-burning stoves and open fires.

However, as with all wood you burn at home, it should be seasoned or put in a kiln. The moisture content needs to be low so the wood can be burnt and produce the maximum heat.

Beech

Another prevalent type of firewood is beech, which produces fantastic heat and burns for an extended period. This firewood is excellent for open fires and wood-burning stoves.

Oak

Now, oak is very dense, heavy, and excellent firewood. Homeowners often request oak firewood for burning simply because it’s very thick. Therefore, it burns for such a long period that the customer doesn’t need to keep adding wood as often when compared to, say, a type of softwood log.

Ready to burn

What is essential, regardless of which type of firewood you buy, is that it is “ready to burn”— the moisture content needs to be significantly reduced through seasoning or kiln-drying. Here at Forestry Firewood Ltd, we prefer to kiln-dry the wood; we then use a moisture meter on every batch of firewood we produce to ensure that every batch of logs we make is ready to burn.

Large quantities available at affordable prices

Regardless of which type of firewood you buy, you will want ample logs to burn. Here, we offer Forestry

Firewood large quantities of firewood at very affordable and competitive prices.

Plus, our vans are busy delivering firewood throughout the year. Businesses such as wood-fired pizza companies need a regular supply of firewood. Plus, many homeowners have firepits even during the summer. Therefore, if you are looking for a local firewood supplier that can deliver throughout the year, contact us, as we have many logs for sale.

We own our kiln

Some firewood companies are simply resellers of firewood produced by another business. Therefore, they may be unable to dry their own wood in a kiln, making it much harder to ensure that the customer gets a consistent supply of ready-to-burn logs.

Our company is very different in this regard. We have built our large kiln on our farm. The kiln is made to dry various logs of multiple lengths. This ensures that all logs delivered to our customers are ready to burn.

Introduction

So, firewood is all the same, right?

Well, not exactly; that’s because there are hundreds of varieties of different timbers. Some are perfect for burning in a wood-burning stove, and some are not.

Then you have to ask the question, is the wood dry? Has it been kiln-dried and or seasoned?

If so, what’s the moisture content?

Is your wood dry and ready to burn?

So, many people are shopping on Google to find “dry firewood” suppliers. This is because they do not know the terminology to describe sound quality, ready-to-burn firewood. The firewood can either be seasoned or placed in a dry, open barn for a long period of time.

However, the method of drying the wood that most customers want is to purchase “kiln-dried” firewood. That’s because the wood has had its moisture greatly reduced by being blasted with hot air in what is essentially a giant oven.

You may own an air fryer at home. This works by a heating element blasting hot air around a small space. This is the same concept we use with our giant kiln. The hot air blasts the wood, the steam escapes, and what’s left at the end is timber that’s ready to burn.
But I see some cheap prices for wet wood, why should we buy this?

Well, this is where a lot of customers think, “I will season the wood myself.” However, you have to think: Do you have the space and amount of time to wait for the wood to season correctly?

For some varieties of wood, the timber has to be stored for over 12 months in a dry place. Now, most homeowners don’t want a chunk of their garden taken up by logs drying.

So, in our view, wet wood is a false economy. Sure, it might be cheaper, but then you have to season it and store it for often a long period of time before it’s ready to burn. Then, you must use your moisture meter to ensure it’s ready to burn.

We only sell ready-to-burn logs

So, when people are looking for “dry logs” on Google, what they really want are logs that are “ready to burn.” Our logs are just that; they can be put straight in your wood-burning stove as soon as they are delivered to you.

So, you do not have to wait to use the logs; you can burn them immediately.

How do we arrange for delivery?

Lead times, in terms of how quickly we can get the logs to you, very much depend on the time of the year. In the run-up to December, which is often our coldest period here in the United Kingdom, as you can imagine, this is normally our busiest period.

Yet we also deliver during the summer, so why not call us? Then, we will be able to book you into our diary so that we can get our logs despatched to you as soon as we can.
