Introduction

So, firewood is all the same, right?

Well, not exactly; that’s because there are hundreds of varieties of different timbers. Some are perfect for burning in a wood-burning stove, and some are not.

Then you have to ask the question, is the wood dry? Has it been kiln-dried and or seasoned?

If so, what’s the moisture content?

Is your wood dry and ready to burn?

So, many people are shopping on Google to find “dry firewood” suppliers. This is because they do not know the terminology to describe sound quality, ready-to-burn firewood. The firewood can either be seasoned or placed in a dry, open barn for a long period of time.

However, the method of drying the wood that most customers want is to purchase “kiln-dried” firewood. That’s because the wood has had its moisture greatly reduced by being blasted with hot air in what is essentially a giant oven.

You may own an air fryer at home. This works by a heating element blasting hot air around a small space. This is the same concept we use with our giant kiln. The hot air blasts the wood, the steam escapes, and what’s left at the end is timber that’s ready to burn.
But I see some cheap prices for wet wood, why should we buy this?

Well, this is where a lot of customers think, “I will season the wood myself.” However, you have to think: Do you have the space and amount of time to wait for the wood to season correctly?

For some varieties of wood, the timber has to be stored for over 12 months in a dry place. Now, most homeowners don’t want a chunk of their garden taken up by logs drying.

So, in our view, wet wood is a false economy. Sure, it might be cheaper, but then you have to season it and store it for often a long period of time before it’s ready to burn. Then, you must use your moisture meter to ensure it’s ready to burn.
